Bomb threat a dud

A SUSPICIOUS package which led to the closure and evacuation of Gawler Police Station on Monday night turned out to be used fireworks.

Officers from the Explosives Co-ordination Section (ECS) were called to the Cowan Street station after the suspicious item was handed to the front counter by a member of the public just before 5pm.

Police present suspected the item may be dangerous, so the station was evacuated and closed until ECS officers could attend and examine the
item.

The station was reopened at 7.30pm when the suspicious item was determined to be used fireworks, which were taped together.

Police said no threat was posed to officers or members of the public, and the item will be disposed of in a safe manner by ECS officers.

No further details have been released, including the identity of the person who delivered the package or the circumstances surrounding the delivery.
