Plans for Gawler
MADAM - Gawler seems to be likely to become the Monarto you have when you are not having Monarto.

MADAM - It is disappointing to see that the opportunity for our district to benefit from a state-of-the-art, clean, green modern technology, such as that proposed for the glasshouse development at Shea-Oak Log, is to be lost to the protestations of a vocal minority who can best be described as NIMBY'S (not in my backyard).

Wholly agree, projects like this should be nurtured.
Local fabrication and construction jobs will benefit, farming goods retailers, etc, etc. It appears that, in my opinion, the Light/Barossa establishments are hell bent on their "pretty vineyard landscapes" and " gourmet" excuses for overpriced, poor tasting, unhealthy food.
Yes, there is a place for those, but their reach is limited especially with low tourist numbers, the high dollar and the scorn on our state from interstate folk... IMO, the root cause of the lack of innovation and progress is due to councils such as this one, sentencing its constituency to ongoing mediocrity.
Gawler, in my opinion is just as bad with the recent debacle over the racecourse land being the prime example and the persistence with "heritage at all costs" which is driving business away. They have little realisation that much of Gawler already spends its money elsewhere due to the poor access to what little retail the council deems should be in the centre of Gawler.
Prospective businesses, in many cases, have shunned Gawler due to the prohibitive costs and restrictions in the maintenance of their heritage "character".
People of modern times demand convenience, otherwise they simply look for it elsewhere. In the case of Gawler issue with the lack of retail spending as it will unfold more seriously in the near future, Angle Vale has a convenient and growing modern retail precinct, Munno Para is already substantial with rumours of more expansion, Blakes Crossing will have a good retail precint as will the Playford Alive project.
Gawler should be very worried as residents will make a "bee-line" for these easy parking and generally well priced organised precincts.
