Food festival in planning

PLANS to showcase the Northern Adelaide Plains as the ‘Salad Bowl of South Australia’ took a historical turn recently, as members of a local community group learnt more about a festival they plan to revive.

The Northern Plains Compass community group is in the process of planning the Northern Plains Food Festival, aimed at showcasing the lifestyle, food and business potential of the region.

At a recent meeting, the group heard from its newest member, Geoff Bergamin, about his role at the Virginia Expo – a previous incarnation of the festival that the group is trying to relaunch.

Mr Bergamin shared a photo with members from 1997 of the expo’s centrepiece, the ‘mountain of vegetables’, and discussed how it was his job to keep the mountain fresh for the entirety of the event.

The Northern Plains Food Festival is set to be held at the Two Wells Oval on October 21 and the group is calling on businesses in the area to support the event.
