Gawler Historic Building: Exchange Hotel

The Exchange Hotel was built by Mr. Theodore Kneese in 1868, during a period of municipal and industrial growth in Gawler. "Churches, friendly societies and temperance societies thrived, Twelve public houses compete with them and appear to do well" (ref E.H. Coombe).

The most note licencee was Mrs Mulligan who ran the hotel for neartly 40 years from 1925 to 1964. She wa shelped by her son, Her claim to fame was her own brewed ale.
