Gawler Historic Building: Willaston Hotel
Originally built in 1866 as the Victoria Hotel, this pub traded under that name until as recently as 1970. But there was a Willaston Hotel, built much earlier (1849) which was delicensed in1919 and still stands as an old house building on the other side of the mainstreet close to the Willaston bridge.
The present Willaston Hotel was the scene of the official opening of the Grand Order of Oddfellows' Loyal Victoria Lodge in 1867.
In recent years the vernandah has been rebuilt after being demolished by a runaway car and the loung bar and off-licence areas have had major facelifts and extensions (1989).
