AN elderly Buchfelde woman  passed away after her home was completely engulfed in flames, just days before Christmas.

Firefighters from both the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and Country Fire Service (CFS) arrived at the Two Wells Road property just before 12.30am on Saturday, December 23, when they found it well alight.

The five CFS crews and one MFS unit worked together to extinguish the flames, before discovering the body of the 84-year-old homeowner inside.

The cause of the fire in not believed to be suspicious and police have begun preparing a report for the Coroner.

A CFS spokeswoman said the house was completely destroyed in the fire, causing $300,000 of damage.

“The (firefighters) had to tackle it from the carport because the house was quite engulfed, so they had to tackle it strategically,” the CFS spokeswoman said.
