COMMENTS

the people who made decision are both short sighted and completely devoid of and understanding of suatainable rban growth.
They obviously care little about the impact upon students at Gawler High and are more concerned with economic development. To those who agreed you basically have said you have no morals or ethics and do not care about the welfare and safety of our children. Shame on you..
Expediency in the face of some economic gains but at what cost to our future generations. This was discussed five years ago and I remember presenting a powerpoint to show the impacts at a GHS meeting.
Why not put a petrol chemical plant next to the school..at least it would be obvious. Oh thats right traffic deaths and ways to attract kids out of school are OK especially if money can be made..
Gawler Council has let the students down..big time...

John, this is not about impacts to the school (which has been next to the crumbling Main North Road for 40 odd years now).
If you look a little closer, there is already TWO petrol stations (emit similar pollutants) adjacent to the school, one for about just as long as the existence of that school. Reality is that the intersections around that now are a dog's breakfast with zero access past the back of the racecourse for a few years now.
The Council has had many years to do something about it but has done NOTHING in terms of improving flow and volume, other than choke it up with confusing "lane hopping" and narrowing.
Yes Gawler council has let the students down, I agree with you there, as once the courts have finished with the council, we might see an increase in the court costs they have to pay increase three fold(maybe $300K+).
With that money which is now GONE, the council could have been productive and efficient in working with the future developer in creating an efficient retail centre. The money could have been utilised to repair and improve the intersections, double lane the road etc, etc.
The reality is now that the council has publicised its position in the entire scenario, reducing the likelihood of any developer wanting to work with them in creating something good.
Reality is also that EVERY arterial road into/out of Gawler and all the boundary arterial roads are fast becoming the worst in the state.
It defies belief that quiet streets with nearly no traffic in the centre of ye olde Gawler are hot mix bituminised yet thousands of cars everyday have to endure the corrugations, patches and pot holes on the arterial roads into/out of Gawler.
Have you gone for a drive down Potts(hole!!) Road lately??? It says alot to prospective tourists like " turn around, get out and take the bypass to the Barossa" .
The loss of this money has compounded that to ensure they will not be renewed any time soon with the Gawler Bypass now the best road in Gawler.
You make your own luck, enjoy the pot holes.

The council should purchase the land to construct a new modern civic and conference centre, in lieu of operating out of multiple sites.
