Stanley signs with Virginia

VIRGINIA has completed a massive off-season coup, signing star Gawler Central midfielder Danny Stanley ahead of the 2018 Adelaide Plains football season.

Stanley, a former Schluter medallist and premiership player with the Tigers, will go a long way to replacing departed Rams Ben Russell and Tyson Panagiotou, who both signed for South Gawler recently.

The move will reunite Stanley with former Gawler Central coach Damien Herzick, who has also signed on with Virginia for 2018 – the pair won a flag together with the Tigers in 2014.

Virginia president Julie Platt said the club is delighted to have Stanley on board for the upcoming season.

“We’re pretty excited about that one,” she said.

“He’s worked with Damien before, he’s known him for quite a while.

“I’ve heard a lot of great things about his football.”

The loss is a further dent to Central’s ambitions for the upcoming season, following the departure of Sean Brading and the uncertain future of club legend Clint Hill.
