Tennis centre ready to shine

TENNIS players from all over Australia are set to converge on the Playford City Tennis Centre this weekend, as tournament play at the newly-developed venue kicks off for the first time.

The City of Playford Gold AMT is a sanctioned Tennis Australia event, with a field of men and women, in both singles and doubles, set to battle it out for valuable rankings points.

Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the field for the inaugural tournament has been slowly building, with 111 registered competitors – including a number of interstate players – set to hit the court at the new facility.

“This presents a great opportunity for tournament players from across SA, and Australia, to experience the Playford City Tennis Centre and spread the word, on their return home, about Australia’s best regional tennis facility,” he said.

The City of Playford Gold AMT will be held from Thursday, September 7 until Sunday, September 10, with admission free to members of the public.

A second Gold AMT tournament will be held in November, with both tournaments providing an ideal curtain-raiser to the centre’s marquee event – the City of Playford Tennis International – which will begin on December 30.
