MORE than $36,000 was distributed to 17 former Kapunda High School students through the Country Education Foundation of Australia grants program at last Wednesday’s Kapunda High School Centenary Awards.

It brought the total amount of funding facilitated by the Centenary Foundation since 2009, to just over $280,000 distributed to 102 students and trade trainees.

The recipient of the KHS Centenary Foundation Jim Bettison Scholarship was Georgia Flavel, and acting principal of Kapunda High, Tim Jones, spoke highly of her achievements.

“Georgia has always taken every opportunity presented at Kapunda High School,” he said.

“Across her secondary schooling she has consistently achieved academic excellence, and been a long-standing member of the school’s concert band.

“Georgia has always been willing to support school initiatives and has provided leadership in a variety of settings within the school.

“Her service to the school and wider community has been significant, with ongoing involvement in peer support, mentoring reading, SRC, fundraising, sport and dance just to name a few.”

Sophie McDougall would receive the Helen James Award, and Mr Jones also praised her achievements.

“Sophie achieved an ATAR of 92.25. Sophie has been a member of the Student Representative Council for the past three years where she has contributed as a positive role model and active team member,” he said.

“In her role as Head Prefect in 2020 she was a visible leader who was able to motivate others to be involved.

“Sophie has been highly successful when working with people as she is reliable, respectful, cheerful and has empathy for others.

“Sophie is someone who will always give things ago and strive to achieve her best achieving A grades in subjects studied last year.

“Sophie has been accepted into a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy with Honours at the University of South Australia.”

Presentations were also made by Centenary Foundation committee members to the following students; Isabel Castaneda Habel and Aiden Mudge (Ahrens Award), Courtney Loffler (Kapunda Community Thrift Shop Award), Chelsea Ruediger (Ian Murray Award), Katlyn Brooks and Shaleigh Pritchard (Johnson Family KHS Country Education Awards), Ella Fiegert and Corey Wall (Ware Family Country Education Grants), Aneisha Whitmore and Sean Dempsey (Light Regional Council Country Education Grants).
