Local celebrates 90th in unique fashion

AFTER being forced to cancel his 90th birthday party due to COVID-19 quarantine measures, Gordon Foxwell woke up on his big day to rousing support after his daughter put up a sign outside his Redbanks Road home encouraging motorists to “toot” in celebration of the occasion.

“We didn’t know about it at all,” Mr Foxwell said.

“We got out of bed this morning and my daughter, who lives down the road, had been up here and done this unbeknownst to us.”

Gordon’s wife, Dulcie Foxwell, said plans were originally for a big family day, before being adjusted to having food provided by a local hotel, before the hotel closed its doors, forcing a much more unique birthday.

Gordon is originally from Gawler, before spending some time on a farm in Freeling and eventually returning home.

“I was managing a farm on Freeling for some racehorse people, but I gave it up,” he said.

“Then I was asked to go to Roseworthy College to teach students farming, so about 45 years we’ve been back here.”
