MEMBERS of the Playford community came together earlier this month, donating generously over the duration of Anti-Poverty Week.

From October 11 to 17, South Australian automobile club RAA hosted a food drive as part of its ongoing partnership with Foodbank SA, taking its mobile food hub, a grocery store on wheels, to various locations across the state.

On October 16 it was stationed at the Woolworths entrance of Elizabeth Shopping Centre for what was the food hub’s final stop for the week.

Almost $840 and 126 kilograms of food were donated, providing 1932 meals for South Australians in need.

Elizabeth East resident Nadège Wauchope was one of those who donated items during the food drive, giving 3.5kg of food from her weekly shop.

“At the moment I’m in a better position than some people I know and so I thought why not donate,’’ she said.

Collection bins were also placed at all metropolitan RAA stores where food items could also be dropped off.
