Lay’s day
1 min read

SHAUN Lay had a one-day innings to remember on Saturday as his Trinity Old Scholars faced off against Old Scotch in Adelaide Turf Cricket Association A1 action – notching 149 not-out and
carrying his bat.
Lay opened with Ardene Ruhode (47) and the pair were dominant right from the start, building a platform of 0/151
before Ruhode lost his wicket, leaving Lay to carry the side to 2/230 in its 40
overs.
Old Scotch kept things interesting, but at 5/176, youngster Todd Watt (4/36) produced a hat-trick to put the game to
bed.
Lay said he has always felt comfortable in the shorter versions of the game, and despite being dropped in the 90s, he didn’t give the opposition any chances to get him.
“One-day games usually are my strength – a few years ago I had a 150 against Virginia, and I had a 121 last year, but it’s always good to go on with it and get a big ton,” he said.
“I’ve had a few decent starts this season, but this was the first where it all came together and I was able to really turn it up later on with wickets in hand.
“Their chase actually should’ve been a lot smoother than it was, but right when we needed someone to come in to bowl full and straight, Todd Watt produced some terrific death bowling and nabbed a hat-trick.”
In A3 competition, Trinity went down against Adelaide Lions by five wickets after only putting up a score of 130 when
batting first.
Jace O’Hara (48) was the top performer for the TOSers with the bat, while with the ball Sam Lainas (2/13 from nine overs) and Tom Jones (3/15 from nine overs) were efficient in a losing
effort.
In Para District Cricket Association LO 2 competition, Trinity came up just short of Eyre Royals’ 9/172 total after losing its last wicket while needing 10 runs from the last 11 balls.
