Fry named alongside SANFLW’s best
1 min read

CENTRAL District footballer Kimberley Fry celebrated a terrific individual season this past fortnight after she was named in the SANFLW Team of the Year.

The 17-year-old defender was named at centre-half back in the side and became the club’s first-ever selection in the team following its inaugural season.

Despite an impressive 2019 campaign, Fry was shocked to be selected.

“I wasn’t expecting it to be honest, I was quite surprised when they said my name,” she said.

“Especially because of my age, I never expected it.”

Fry initially started her football journey with Willaston in the BLGW competition – the same club her brother and A-grader Ash plays for.

“I’ve been around it (footy) since I was younger, my brother played ever since I was born, so I grew up kicking the footy and just loved it,” she said.

“I played a season there and then I moved to Elizabeth and trained with the boys out there and loved it.”

The Dogs celebrated their inaugural season this year, and Fry was delighted to be a part of it.

“The coaching staff is really good, they just want you to get better and will do anything to help you improve,” she said.

“I’ve never loved my footy more than I have this year.

“It’s cool to be a part of history.”

Fry also represented South Australia in the annual two-game series against the Northern Territory on Friday and Sunday, alongside Doggies team-mates Madison Lane and Laitiah Huynh.

“Again, it’s a privilege, I just love it,” she said prior to the matches.

“I’m looking forward to showing off what we can do as a team.”

Fry is also eligible for the AFLW draft later this year, and is hoping to be given an opportunity at the elite level.

“I’m doing the Crows exhibition stuff at the minute, but hopefully things work out well,” she said.
