Highlighting an SA legend
1 min read

LOCAL sports enthusiasts and published sports writers Robert Laidlaw and Robin Mulholland have teamed up to write the biography of Central District Football Club legend and Stolen Generation victim Sonny Morey, with help from the man himself.
The book, SONNY: Sonny Morey’s inspirational Stolen Generation story, will be released this Saturday in a launch at the Central District Football Club with a limited print run of 500, sold for $35 each.
Laidlaw said he has always had an interest in the story, but getting Sonny to sit down with he and Mulholland revealed so much more.
“His perseverance and determination through some horrible times is something that sticks with me,” he said.
“He’s such a nice guy, and so open about everything he’s been through – it was a real pleasure to produce and I hope we’ve done him justice.”
Morey, who holds the honour of being the first Central District Bulldog to ever register a kick in the SANFL, played 14 years from 1964-1977, and represented South Australia four times as a rebounding defender.
He was also named in the club’s official ‘Best Team 1964-2003’, and won best-and-fairest in 1970.
