Spectators set for ‘normal’ footy experience
1 min read

WITH footy returning to Gawler and the Barossa this weekend, club presidents have said that for spectators, there should be no noticeable restrictions, with patrons simply asked to respect social distancing and maintain good hygiene.
Willaston Football Club president Aldo Pasin outlined his club’s COVID-safe plan, but highlighted the fact that the restrictions would mostly be applied to the players.
“The under-13s and under-15s will come ready to play, but the senior colts, reserves and A-grade will all still have access to the change rooms,” he said.
“Players can still use the showers, but skip every second one so they’re spaced out more. Other than that, we’ll just have people walking around wiping down any busy thoroughfare areas and making sure we’re as disinfected as we can be.
“At the end of the day, we want to embrace our Donnybrook community, and do what we do best by supporting our club.”
Nuriootpa Football Club president Chris Linke shared a similar plan, but included directions from SANFL to try and keep players from interacting with spectators if possible.
“I think the gist of the message from the SANFL is that we’re not being asked to do anything more than what the public is expected to do,” he said.
“Things like social distancing, and not coughing all over things, and just generally being respectful of one another – the onus is on the spectators.
“We’ve got Gawler Central coming to town this week, and normally we don’t get a huge crowd from Centrals, but I hope they’re as keen as what we are to get out and watch a bit of footy.”
