Aged care incentives offered to workers in regional areas
1 min read

GAWLER residents seeking an opportunity to study and work in the aged or disability care sector could be assisted by State Government scholarships, if they commit to working in regional areas.

Applications for the 2020 Aged – Residential, Community and Disability Scholarships are open now, aimed at supporting people in rural areas in their care careers, and encouraging regional job
growth.

Up to 90 successful applicants across the state will undertake the scholarship program, which is worth around $4000 and culminates with recipients receiving a Certificate III in Aged Care, Home, and Community and Disability.

Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network’s program manager of optimal ageing, Amy Foote, said the initiative was needed to meet the demands of the industry.

“Successful applicants receive job-specific training, with the six regional Local Health Networks partnering with private company EQUALS International to deliver the training on-site, and specifically tailored to meet the needs of our workforce,” she said.

“The course is delivered over 19 weeks and combines theory with practical learning, with students completing a minimum of 160 hours of professional practice in residential aged care, home or
community care settings.

“We hope that the recipients of these scholarships will complete the course and go on to gain employment in the ageing or disability services, which will help meet current and future workforce
demands.”

The scholarships are specifically designed for people seeking a return to the workforce, or who are looking to develop new skills as part of a career change.

“Scholarships such as these are an important way to help businesses and students get the skills and qualifications needed to build lasting careers and boost the economy,” Ms Foote said.

Applications for the scholarship close on October 31, with prospective recipients required to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident eligible for State Government subsidised training.
