Drop-in sessions for King Street Bridge designs

GAWLER residents were recently offered the opportunity to have their say on the updated designs for King Street Bridge.

Drop-in information sessions were held on Thursday, October 22 and Saturday, October 24, with staff from the Gawler Rail Electrification Project on hand to answer questions and note feedback from the community.

The sessions were held at Gawler Central Shopping Centre.

Current concept plans for the bridge were altered from the original designs following community consultation last year.

The historic bridge is to be demolished and replaced with a pedestrian only alternative as part of the $615 million Gawler Rail Electrification Project.

In its current state the bridge accommodates vehicles.

Details of the bridge which can still be influenced include its colour, the materials used on the bridge screens, walkway and pavement treatment and the style of the fencing.

A Department of Infrastructure and Transport spokesperson said the drop-in sessions were well-attended by the community.

The project team also held a community information session at the Gawler Sport and Community Centre last night, which gave members of the community another chance to provide feedback on the designs, with submissions closing on Friday, November 13.

More information on the project can be found on the department’s website.
