Equipment for those in need
1 min read

DOZENS of families affected by domestic violence will be receiving brand new sporting equipment from the Reclink Australia Sports Share program after a donation to the Northern Domestic Violence Service (NDVS).

Reclink Australia spokesperson Andy Vasser said the program came from the head offices in Melbourne as a way of responding to in-need programs that have been locked down altogether.

“The national Sport Share program is providing agencies with boxes of sporting equipment to give out to clients,” he said.

“We’ve got things like footballs, totem tennis, soccer balls, cricket equipment, croquet courts – one family has even had a basketball ring organised for them.

“It’s another way of connecting with people.”

Member for Elizabeth, Lee Odenwalder, said he is proud to support this type of cause, and commended both Reclink Australia and NDVS on the work they do.

“Anything we can do to help keep disadvantaged people engaged in recreation is a good thing,” he said.

“Not only to keep them fit, but also to keep them engaged in sport and recreation generally.

“We’ll do anything we can to assist the Northern Domestic Violence Service, who do such an amazing job keeping women and children safe in their community.”

NDVS spokesperson Maxine Pagonis said the organisation is thankful for the regular assistance is receives from Reclink Australia.

“(Reclink) has been supporting us for quite some time now,” she said.

“They’ve been supporting us with our school holiday programs, and providing women and children with the opportunities around recovering from trauma through recreation.

“Simone from Reclink got in touch with us recently about donating some sporting packs, so we’re hoping these will go to around 30 families.”

In 2019, NDVS supported 1000 women and 250 children living in unstable conditions, and can be reached on 8255 3622.
