PLAYFORD Council is seeking community consultation on a new concept design for the eastern end of Fremont Park.

Fremont Park is Playford’s premier park, yet the eastern end of the area has limited facilities and lacks green space and vegetation, making it underutilised.

Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the concept is a new and exciting design which complements the works recently completed in Fremont Park.

“We have a new concept design that includes a large and small dog park, a new off street car park, expanded lawn area, native plantings, as well as new paths, drinking fountains, lighting and seating,” he said.

“This complements the recently completed all-ability playspace area and surrounds, which is extremely popular amongst families and prior to that, an upgrade of the creek was undertaken.”

Mr Docherty is encouraging community members to get involved and have their voices heard.

“Fremont Park is our premier park and we look forward to hearing the feedback from the community and I encourage people to come to the sessions being held at the park at the north-eastern section of the park or get onto the Playford website through the community engagement hub and put your ideas into this exciting opportunity,” he said.

Playford already has three dog parks across its council area, but not one in Fremont Park.

“We’ve got thousands and thousands of dog lovers and owners,” Mayor Docherty said.

“So having a proposed small and large dog park gives them more confidence.

“We want to make sure the whole family is included, whether it’s the kids on the playground, mum and dad relaxing in the gardens or running around with your teenager and your dog.”

Council is also seeking external funding opportunities to help pay for the upgrade of the eastern end and the timing of construction will depend on this success.
