THE Gawler Eagles suffered their
first loss of the State League 2
season on Saturday when they
went down to a late winner in
a 0-1 home loss against Vipers
FC.
It was a tough game throughout,
remaining scoreless until the 86th
minute when Ramadhan Kamugisha
put home the winner, 13 minutes
after coming off the bench as
a substitute.
While the final result was disappointing,
Gawler head coach Andrew
Burgess said there were more
than a few positives to take out of
the contest.
“I was very impressed with our
game overall, with some outstanding
ball movement in the first 65
minutes,” he said.
“We created four clear-cut chances
in the first half, and if taken,
the game would have been put
to bed.
“Matthew Di Matteo played another
very consistent game, Aaron
Taye had another impressive performance
and our goalkeeper Freeman
Johnson made some outstanding
saves in the second half. This
season so far has showed me that
the team is going in the right direction,
especially with our first-half
performance.
“We definitely need to improve
our second halves, but overall I’m
very happy with the way we are
tracking.”
