Eagles smash UniSA

GAWLER Eagles hit UniSA FC for six on Saturday afternoon, thrashing the visitors 6-1 in State League 2 soccer at Karbeethan Reserve.

The Eagles got off to a flyer and within the blink of an eye were two goals up.

Bosco Uwezo scored in the second minute, before Iradi Baragomwa extended the lead just moments later.

It was a one-sided mauling of the competition’s 10thplaced team, and Baragomwa made it 3-0 in the 12th minute.

UniSA’s day went from bad to worse a short time later, as Frank Connolly put it past his own goalkeeper to gift the Eagles a 4-0 lead.

Robbie McMillan rounded out the first half in stoppage time, scoring the side’s fifth goal and ensuring his side went into half-time with a 5-0 lead.

After the break, UniSA came out looking like a different side, and scored a consolation goal just five minutes after the restart through Ben Willans-Price.

However, the Eagles cancelled that out a short time later, as Pierre Ndayirata converted his fourth goal of the season.

The win keeps Gawler in touch with top-placed Adelaide Hills, with a game in hand against winless Mount Barker United this week still to come.

In the reserves, UniSA FC beat the Eagles 3-1.

Igor Lino was the sole scorer for Gawler.
