Fundraising for day care centre in Philippines

Elliot Tohver-Kirby

JACKY Rogers of the Apex Club Gawler wants to help build a children’s day care centre in the Philippines.

After raising the money needed to support the trip, she plans are to visit the Philippines in April with 12 other Apex members from across Australia.

The day care centre will be equipped with desks, chairs, a toilet, drinking water facilities, electric fans, a white board, a television, and a laptop.

Currently, the children have been going to the house of a volunteer teacher.

Ms Rogers said she saw countries helping Australia, especially in regards to the recent bushfires, and wanted to give back.

“At the moment a lot of other countries are helping us, it’s our way to also help them,” she said.

“I couldn’t imagine not doing it to be honest. When it comes to children everything needs to be done for them and these children are really disadvantaged.”

The day care centre will give children proper facilities and prepare them for the school system.

The Gawler Apex Club has recently been helping out with the bushfires in SA.

“We donated about 80 bags of dog food out to different areas,” Richard Beacham said, another Apex member.

“There’s no way we can take money away from the fires at this time, so we’ll be doing our active fundraising afterwards,” Ms Rogers said.

Ms Rogers moved to Gawler around 18 months ago and has been part of the Apex Club for six months.
