Gawler Eagles come from behind to snatch a point

LIAM PHILLIPS
GAWLER Eagles fought
back from an early 0-2
deficit to salvage a point
in Saturday’s State League
2 contest at Modbury
Vista, finishing as a 3-3
draw.
Things started poorly for
the Eagles when Lionnel
Muhitira accidentally put
one into his own net in the
13th minute to hand Vista a
0-1 lead.
That was doubled when
Vista’s Zac Miller converted
from the penalty spot in
the 33rd minute, but just
as the hosts were getting
out of reach, Gawler striker
Ousmanou Mohamadou
pegged one back in the 36th
minute.
Not satisfied with heading
into halftime trailing,
Mohamadou made it two
in three minutes to equalise
in the 38th minute to make
it 2-2 when the referee signalled
the end of the first 45
minutes.
While Gawler had the momentum
coming out of the
sheds, it was ripped away by
Vista’s Blake Langridge as
he put the home side up 3-2
in the 48th minute.
Determined not the leave
empty-handed, Aaron Taye,
who Gawler coach Andrew
Burgess named man-of-thematch,
equalised again in the
56th minute to lock the game
back up at 3-3.
That was how it would remain
until the final whistle,
with Burgess saying he was
happy to come away with a
point.
“I’m very happy with the
way the boys played and
moved the ball,” he said.
“We tried to force some
things and we were rushed
at times, but personally
I’m very happy with the
way we are tracking this
season.
“Best on ground was Aaron
Taye – he scored a superb
goal – and again our
number-9 Nas (Ousmanou
Mohamadou) scored two
goals for the second week in
a row.
“Our young midfielder
Jordan McDonald also had
another very good game
– the only negative really
was the injury to Sam Cook,
who’s been outstanding all
year.”
