Grants boost for organisations, clubs

SEVEN community organisations and clubs have shared in up to $27,000 of community development and event grants, thanks to Playford Council.

Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said this week the organisations and clubs all made a positive contribution to community and cultural life.

“The grants provide those who have limited capacity to raise funds with the money needed to develop and deliver their locally- based projects, community events and activities,” Mr Docherty said.

“We want to continue to create a place of opportunity, supporting the community’s hopes and vision for a vibrant Playford.”

Elizabeth South Community Centre was one successful recipient, receiveing$5000 in grant funding with the aim to continue strengthening and growing its services, as well as increasing participation in its Kids Club and Women’s Group.

Centre manager Michelle Stevens said the grant would help ensure the sustainable growth of the programs in continuing to provide new opportunities to a broader audience.

“We want to continue to grow our capacity,” she said.

“The start-up of a junior high space will keep us connected with those young people, and the women’s group will allow us to expand opportunities to explore and take them on excursions.”

Other successful grant recipients include Chinese Music and Arts ($5000), Elizabeth Life Saving Club ($5000), Streetlight ($4915), the Association of the BurundianCommunity of SA Inc ($1025) and Virginia Resident Action Group ($1000).
