Help make the 2021 Gawler Show a success

AS excitement ramps up for this year’s Gawler Show – and a mysterious new event – organisers have put the call out for volunteers.

The Gawler Show committee is calling for those interested in helping to put on a great show in 2021, as well as contribute to a new event that will be held earlier in the year.

While details are still being finalised, Gawler Show marketing administration assistant Tanya Veldkamp said this new, additional event will help generate the funds needed to put on the annual show come August.

“We are working with SA Health at the moment to get our COVID-management plan approved, so we can’t share too much information at this stage because we are dependent on that, and we are

also still working with council to determine the dates,” she said.

“It won’t look or feel anything like the Gawler Show and we are giving it a totally different name, and it will have a totally different look and feel.

“We are very excited about it.”

It is estimated that at least 30 COVID marshalls will be required for the event, while volunteers will also be needed around setting up or in an administrative capacity.

Volunteers are also needed as planning for Gawler Show 2021 ramps up.

Mrs Veldkmap said there is a myriad of positions and opportunities available, with people encouraged to just register their general interest in the first instance.

“I started at the Gawler Show as a volunteer myself so I fully understand organisations such as ours, if you don’t have volunteers you don’t have a show,” she said.

“We rely heavily on volunteers and it definitely is rewarding for them also.”

The show is particularly keen to hear from some fresh young faces, who can bring enthusiasm and new ideas to the organising team.

Twenty-year-old Isaiah Tesselaar comes from a family of show volunteers and is currently on the youth team and the show committee.

He said the youth team is always looking for more young volunteers, with the team in charge of the Treasure Trail and Nixon the mascot.

“The Gawler Show is one of the major events of the town and it brings a lot of people together, and it allows the different age groups to interact because it has a bit of
everything,” he said.

“I’ve been given a great opportunity to learn about leadership with the youth team and also be given different responsibilities

“I’ve been involved in the competition side of things… as the convenor and judge for the school poster competition, and photography.

“It’s certainly fun to be able to see other people’s work and speak with people in the community.”

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the Gawler Show office by either dropping by or phoning (8523 1477) on Monday or Tuesday.

There is also an online registration form on the show’s website.
