Kudla house raided as part of trans-Tasman bikie sting

POLICE have raided a home in Kudla as part of a trans-Tasman crackdown on a notorious outlaw motorcycle gang.

Last Wednesday morning, police from the Crime Gangs Task Force searched a premises on the corner of Dalkeith and Daniel roads, south of Gawler, during a national “day of action” against the  Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

Police uncovered nothing of interest during the search of the Kudla property, which was organised by police Taskforce Morpheus.

The operation included raids across Australia and New Zealand and focused on intelligence gathering, law enforcement and disruption.

More than a dozen raids were carried out across the state to ensure compliance with Firearm Prohibition Orders and drug-related offences.

A police spokesperson said police found no breaches of any firearm compliance orders and small amounts of cannabis and ecstasy at some of the addresses searched.

Five consorting warnings were issued to associates of the Rebels, while those found with drugs as part of the raids were reported for drug possession.

Taskforce Morpheus chair Detective Superintendent Roger Lowe, from Queensland Police, said the operation “demonstrates the value of co-ordinated national and international law enforcement”.

“These gangs are resilient, opportunistic and involved in a wide range of serious crime including drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion, firearm offences and high level violence,” he said.

“The taskforce will continue to prioritise targets and leverage the capability of the multiple agencies to target these gangs in traditional and non-traditional methods.”

The police spokesperson said the Australian Crime Intelligence Commission considers outlaw motorcycle gangs as “one of the most high-profile manifestations of organised crime” with an active  presence around the country.

“The Rebels OMCG is recognised as a highly-established organised crime network with a willingness to use violence and intimidation,” the spokesperson said.

“Members of the Rebels OMCG have been prosecuted for their involvement organised crime and serious violent crime.”

Taskforce Morpheus was formed in 2014 to replace National Taskforce Attero, which targeted the Rebels and resulted in 5756 charges nation-wide between June 2012 and December 2014.

Police are urging anyone with information about illegal activities being undertaken by outlaw motorcycle gangs to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
