Lions leave fingerprints all over country championships

LIAM PHILLIPS
CENTRAL District Basketball
Club was well-represented in this
month’s Junior Country Basketball
Championships in Adelaide, with
more than 30 Lions suiting up for
their home regions.
With players spread across teams
representing Port Lincoln, Mid North,
Barossa Valley, Riverland, Light and
Adelaide Plains, Central District president
Steven Lindner said the tournament
was a terrific opportunity for
young players to hone their skills in
representative basketball.
“Central District is incredibly
proud of our junior players that also
take the time and effort to represent
their home associations,” he said.
“It is important for their development
as players and we fully support
their endeavours.
“As a district club, we aim to support
our regionals associations even
more in the future and encourage
players looking to take their basketball
to the next level to consider joining
our club.”
Highlighting the action for the locals
was the under-16 boys Barossa
Settlers team, which went through the
entire country season undefeated, including
all six games at State Championships,
prevailing in a nail-biting
overtime win against Eastern Hills in
the decider.
Young Lion Zayne Charnstorm
also helped his under-12 division four
Adelaide Plains side go undefeated,
beating Keith in the grand final 36-21.
