Local preschool celebrates 40 years

MCKENZIE THOMPSON

GAWLER’S Zion Lutheran Preschool is set to celebrate its 40th birthday this Sunday, much to the delight of all involved with the organisation.

The centre commenced operations on March 5, 1979 and was run by director Rae Materne and voluntary teacher Elizabeth Roesler, with 10 children enrolled and only four sessions offered.

Since then, the preschool has grown and developed in size and numbers, and now operates the required sessional preschool sessions for fouryear-olds, as well as playgroup.

Current director Sam Harding said the preschool welcomes and encourages parent participation and community involvement.

“I have been director here for five weeks now while the former director is on maternity leave, and I have enjoyed the culture here,” she said.

“The preschool seeks opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ in loving and sensitive ways with members of the preschool community.”

Zion Lutheran Preschool provides an opportunity for children to grow and develop in a stimulating, creative and challenging environment where “each child’s God-given uniqueness is accepted and
valued”.

The preschool’s celebrations this Sunday will begin with a church service at 10.45am, at the Zion worship centre, followed by a shared lunch.

Past students, parents, staff and associates are welcome to attend.

All guests are advised to bring a plate of food along to share.
