Osborn reflects on first season as coach

DESPITE his side missing the finals, South Gawler player-coach Jack Osborn said he enjoyed his first season in the Barossa, Light & Gawler Football Association.
The 205cm tall ruckman, who arrived from Sturt in the off-season, took over as Lions coach at the start of the year, succeeding Chad O’Sullivan.
Unfortunately for the former Double Blue, South only mustered five wins to finish sixth, one game outside of the top five.
Following the Lions’ frustrating finish, Osborn labelled the BL&GFA as “very competitive”.
“I really enjoyed it,” he said.
“It has great support and great fans, it’s a strong competition.
“I learned that there’s no easy games, you look at the whole field and you have some strong teams on top.
“You need consistency, you need your good players to play well each week.”
South has been riddled with inconsistencies for many years, and Osborn said it was an issue again this season.
“We missed a few opportunities, we let some games slip,” he said.
“We had some inconsistencies, we’re trying to introduce some new fundamentals, but it’s hard when you only have two-and-a-half hours each week to train.”
Osborn and his wife, April, welcomed a baby daughter into the world in January this year, with another child on the way in January 2020.
He said “at this point” he will be at the Den next season.
