Owls open their account

ANGLE Vale has flexed its muscles to start season 2019 by thrashing Hamley Bridge by 85 points in Adelaide Plains A-grade football on Saturday.

The Owls got off to a flyer and kicked away to a 36-point quarter-time lead.

However, the Bombers soon found the scoreboard and cut the deficit to 35 points at half-time.

Despite a poor second term, Angle Vale rallied and crushed its opponent in the second half, booting 13 goals to five to secure the win.

Jay Rathmann was terrific with six majors, while the returning Scott Burgess was also impressive up forward with two.

For the Bombers, Hayden Bubner kicked four of his side’s eight goals.

Angle Vale coach Troy Treverton was pleased with his young side’s efforts.

“It was good apart from a 10-minute lapse in the second quarter,” he said.

“I think last year we were in it for a lot of games and gave away a quarter or two.

“With 16 of our 20 players under 20 years of age, I’m happy with the result.”

Treverton said the blend of youth and experience is a good combination.

“We’ve maintained a few players and Scott Burgess came back, he’s a good mature age player for our players,” he said.

“He’ll pinch hit in the ruck, but he’s done a great job in the ruck over many years, we just said we’d love to have him up forward.”

Elsewhere, Two Wells won the grand final rematch against Balaklava by 28 points.

The Roosters were a class above from start to finish, and maintained a lead throughout the whole game.

New recruit Caleb Edmead was terrific with four majors, while teammate Matt Camplin also kicked four.

For the Peckers, Lachie Michael was their best with four goals.

Meanwhile, Hummocks-Watchman showed no signs of slowing down from last season by belting Virginia by 96 points.

The Eagles led by 34 points at quarter-time and never looked back.

Henry Wright kicked seven, while Robert Bellamy and Jordan Bailey kicked four each for the victors.

Finally, Mallala claimed Anzac Day honours by belting United by 75 points.

Riley Thorne was huge with five goals, while Troy Algar and Angus Bruggemann did some damage with three goals each.

For the Tigers, prized off-season recruit Sebastian Quaini kicked three.
