Response to Light budget

LIGHT Regional Council’s draft 2020/21 budget has garnered 16 submissions from the public.
Elected members were presented with the results of council’s recent public consultation period, at a special meeting, last week.
Of the submissions received, five raised concern with council’s decision to spend $1,308,000 on an activation plan for the Five Shillings housing estate, in Kapunda.
The activation strategy would be an extension of council’s successful Accelerated Infrastructure Upgrade Program and would involve the construction of infrastructure along Kapunda Street and Sir Sidney Kidman Boulevard.
The masterplan for Five Shillings Estate, by private developer AquaReef, was for 330 allotments, however only ten new homes have been realised.
Meanwhile, 11 of the submissions were supportive of council’s plan to spend $175,000 on the acquisition of land in the Western Barossa, to be preserved and enhanced by a conservation group.
