Roosters go back-to-back

TWO Wells stunned Angle Vale by nine points in Saturday’s grand final to secure back-to-back Adelaide Plains under 17 football premierships at Two Wells Oval.

The Owls and Roosters faced off in last year’s decider as well, with the latter taking home the 2018 flag by 16 points.

The sides met twice during this year’s home and away season, with Angle Vale winning the first encounter by 27 points, and Two Wells the second by three goals.

The Owls dominated the second semi-final a fortnight earlier and it looked as if the grand final would go down a similar path early on.

Angle Vale burst out of the blocks to lead by one goal at quarter-time, and looked comfortable.

However, the Roosters were hungry and refused to let the Owls get the better of them again, and cut the deficit to a single point at half-time.

Both sides had kicked five goals to half-time, with Jamie Copperstone leading the way for Angle Vale, and Sam Harnas for Two Wells.

The third quarter proved to be a massive difference as the Owls wasted their chances in front of the big sticks, while the Roosters capitalised.

Harnas, alongside Jaden Redpath, played a starring role in the third term as his side kicked 4.3 to the Owls’ 2.4 to open up a 10-point lead at three-quarter-time.

With the game still well and truly in the balance, both sides threw everything at one another, but it was the Roosters who came out on top.

Harnas and Redpath kicked three goals each in game-winning performances, while Ben Cannizzaro and Jake Platt scored two.

For the Owls, Copperstone booted a brace, while Jarron Stott was serviceable around the ground.

Harnas was named best on ground for his standout role in the win.
