Second man arrested over Boyce murder

A SECOND man has been arrested and charged with murder over the 2017 bashing death of Mark Boyce outside his Elizabeth South home.

Mr Boyce, 36, died eight days after suffering a fatal brain injury when he was beaten by three members of the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang outside his Hill Street home in January 2017.

Police believe two vehicles transported the attackers to and from the scene.

In September 2019, one of those vehicles was found four metres underground, burned out and cut up at a Hells Angels Motorcycle Club property at Ponde.

Last Wednesday, police arrested a 31-year-old Gulfview Heights man, who was the owner of the discovered car, and charged him with Mr Boyce’s murder.

He appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court the same day.

Police are still searching for the second car, a 2013 Toyota Rav 4 with numberplates S867 AVO, and are hoping to speak to anyone with information on the vehicle.

The vehicle is linked to the third suspect in the case.

Major Crime Investigation Branch officer in charge Detective Superintendent Des Bray said it had been a “challenging and lengthy” inquiry.

“When we did a press release about Mark’s murder, that vehicle disappeared from our roads and hasn’t been seen since,” he said.

“It hasn’t been re-registered, it hasn’t been reported stolen and there’s been no insurance claims made on it.

“The owner of that car is the father of the person who we say is the third suspect.

“We’re continuing to build a brief of evidence against that person and the investigation is progressing well.”

Detective Superintendent Bray added police were examining the role of a fourth person who may have assisted in locating the original target of the attack, which was not Mark Boyce but another man.

In July 2019, Joshua Grant was convicted of Mr Boyce’s murder and sentenced to a minimum 20 years behind bars.

“Nothing will ever replace the loss of Mark, but at least it’s another one of those involved who will be held accountable,” Detective Superintendent Bray.

“It’s for that reason that I appeal to everybody. If you’re reluctant to help the police don’t think about us.

“If you come forward with information it will actually be helping the family and you’ll be helping our community by getting people like this off the street.”

Police are urging anyone with information on the missing Toyota Rav 4 or Mr Boyce’s death to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 – you can remain anonymous.
