The greatest show of all

THE Gawler Show was a great success again in 2019, having broken its attendance record for the second year running.

Show secretary Kate Cowell confirmed to The Bunyip on Tuesday it had a 17 per cent increase in attendance from last year following initial calculations.

“It went great…last year we broke records, and we’ve broken another one this year,” she said.

“The weather held out, the feedback we got from the caterers was terrific and the general feedback from the public has been nothing but positive.

“I’d like to thank all of our volunteers and our service groups, from the car parking, to the bins to the gates, they’ve done a great job.

“Their support has been wonderful and the Show Society is very appreciative of the support we get.”

The Gawler Show welcomed back the Grand Parade after a lengthy hiatus, and Mrs Cowell said it was a real highlight.

“It was awesome, we were so happy with it,” she said.

“The public heard the tractor start up and ran over to the grandstand to see it.

“It was a sea of faces, our Sunday crowds were higher than we’ve had for years.

“Everyone in it had a great time, even SAPOL on site joined in.”

Show goers also flocked to the new ‘Touch a Truck’ feature, the new bar and, of course, the fireworks.

“We want to grow that area (Touch a Truck), we think it has room for improvement,” Mrs Cowell said.

“The kids loved the MFS truck and we were supported by different stations.

“They were really accommodating and helping us get that done.

“A lot of people loved the new bar area that was out on the Village Green.

“It was a great place to chill out and have a wine, cider and beer.

“Sideshow alley is always popular, but in particular, it’s always the fireworks.

“They were sponsored by Taylor and Forgie and we couldn’t have done it without them.”
