The Power to teach

PORT Adelaide footballers spent Tuesday spread out across local schools for the club’s annual Regional Day, where players and club representatives gave health and life advice, and fielded questions from eager kids.
Port Adelaide Football Club spokesperson, Loukas Founten, discussed the importance of getting out to areas that don’t normally get the attention more metropolitan schools are blessed with.
“We get to plenty of schools during the year, but they’re mostly within metropolitan Adelaide so it’s nice to spread ourselves out a bit more and see some places and people that we don’t often get to,” Founten said.
“We’ll be at 33 schools today with all players spread out, whereas last year we only got to 15 schools on Regional Day, so we’ve really stepped it up.
“We’ll cover nearly 3000kms and see around 7000 students, so it’s a massive day, but our players love it.”
The club shared lifestyle messages from its Community Youth Program, which has now been running for over 21 years.
“It’s all about encouraging the kids to make healthy choices about their lifestyle,” Founten said.
“Eating right, being active and all the other things to ensure you’re healthy.”
The group of Joe Atley, Todd Marshall, Charlie Dixon and Ryan Burton were present at both Evanston Garden Primary School and Gawler Primary School where they also handed out signed posters and took photos with the classes.
