Trav heads straight back into test team picture

FORMER South Gawler Lion Travis Head added another page to his illustrious career in this past week’s Sheffield Shield clash between South Australia and Western Australia, registering a new personal high-score, and the second highest score by an SA batsman at the WACA.
Head’s score of 223 from 245 balls was his first career double-century, and came after finishing the first day at 189 not-out thanks to 26 boundaries.
After day one, Head said he has a lot of love for the WACA, and credited getting some reps in Saturday grade cricket with his touch after scoring 108 not-out for Tea Tree Gully before flying over to WA.
“(The WACA) is a great place to bat – you get value for shots,” he said.
“(Day one) could’ve been a duck, but luckily it was 189 – I know these days don’t come around too often, and you have to make the most of them.
“I hit a few balls in the air, but all in all I feel like I’m tracking the right way.
“Grade cricket was great – I hadn’t had time out in the middle, so to face 160 balls out there on Saturday helped; I got my rhythm
back.”
The match finished in an entertaining draw after SA scored 510/8 and 230/9, and WA surviving by the skin of its teeth with scores of 409/5 and 148/9, with the last ball of the match falling short of a catch to deny SA the win.
