Gawler strikes down AMU

GAWLER moved nine points clear atop the Barossa Valley A-women hockey table after it thrashed Angaston Moculta United 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at Stockwell.

The Strikers took their time getting into the game, and only led 1-0 at the half-time break. However, the competition’s top side flexed its muscles in the second half, scoring five goals.

Hanna Kingsmill and Jacqui Rowe both scored two, while Sophie Haines and Kelly Rowntree scored the others.

Meanwhile, Nuriootpa and Tanunda drew 1-1.

The Magpies took an early lead through Emma Schultz and led 1-0 at half-time.

After the break, it was Nuri captain Courtney Nourse who stepped up to score the equaliser.

In A-men action, Nuriootpa thumped Tanunda 4-1.

Nuri had the game sewn up at half-time as it led 3-0.

Tanunda was unable to find a way back into the contest despite scoring a consolation goal.

Craig Schulz, Dexter Falkenberg, Jordan Rhind and Brad Fairey scored a goal each for the victors, while Steven Draper found the goals for the losing side.

Finally, AMU took a 5-0 win over Gawler-Trinity Old Scholars after it was forced to forfeit.

In the B-women competition, Gawler defeated AMU 3-0.

Tavia Zollo was terrific with two goals, while Michelle Darling also scored.

Elsewhere, Tanunda smashed Trinity Old Scholars 7-2.

Mel Partington’s sensational season continued with a hat-trick, while Elizabeth Matthews scored twice.

Finally, Clare United pummelled Nuriootpa 5-0.

In B-men action, Tanunda Black claimed bragging rights over Tanunda White 3-0.

Nick Dry scored twice while Daniel Southern added the third.

Meanwhile, AMU Maroon beat Nuriootpa Gold 2-0.

Bill Ojeda and Cal Munchenberg scored the two goals for the victors.

In the remaining games, Nuriootpa Green knocked off Clare United 2-0 while AMU Blue defeated Trinity Old Scholars 5-0 on forfeit.
