Strikers find another gear

GAWLER has put together one of its best performances of the season as it obliterated Angaston-Moculta United 13-0 in Barossa Valley A-women hockey on Sunday.

The Strikers started well and stormed away to a 4-0 half-time lead.

However, the reigning premier’s class really shone through in the second half, as it scored nine goals to none to blow AMU off the park.

Michelle Dikih scored five times, Jacqui Rowe landed a hat-trick, while Jess White and Jess Szulc added two goals each in the rout.

Skipper Claire Donaldson also scored, as the Strikers moved 15 points clear atop the table.

Elsewhere, Nuriootpa defeated Tanunda 5-0.

Courtney Nourse was inspirational with two goals, while Amber Longo, Renee Bishop and Tyler Burgess scored one each.

In the A-men competition, AMU slaughtered Gawler-Trinity Old Scholars 10-1.

AMU got off to the perfect start, scoring four goals to one in the opening half.

Things went from bad to worse for Gawler-Trinity, as AMU piled on a further six goals.

Daniel Wall had a day out, scoring a remarkable seven times, while Peter Reiters scored twice and David Jamieson once.

For Gawler-Trinity, Jason Button was the only player to beat the AMU keeper.

Meanwhile, league leaders Nuriootpa defeated fierce rival Tanunda 3-1.

Jai Lowke scored two goals, while vice-captain Greg Schulz added one.

In B women, Gawler crushed Nuriootpa 5-0.

Georgia Hall and Kerry Johnson scored two goals each, while Helen Alsford added the fifth.

Elsewhere, Trinity Old Scholars knocked off AMU 5-0.

Amber Richards and Amelia Sharrad were terrific with two goals each, while Isabella Sharrad also scored.

In the other match, Tanunda won a 10-goal thriller against Clare United 6-4.

In B-men action, Tanunda White defeated Trinity Old Scholars 2-1.

Robert Griffin and Patrick Nugent scored for the victors, while Brad Schaper was the sole goal-scorer for the TOSers.

Elsewhere, Nuriootpa Green destroyed AMU Maroon 7-1.

Steve Gallasch scored a hat-trick in his 300th game for the club, while Sam Horn, Michael Grope, Dom Chinhanga and Zach Fuss added the others.

In the other matches, AMU Blue defeated Nuriootpa Gold 5-2, and Clare United knocked off Tanunda Black 3-2.
