THE 2021 Gawler Silver April JT came to
a close this past Wednesday, with a number
of locals producing solid results without
claiming a title in the field of 99 participants
from around the country.
Played at Essex Park, 13 divisions were
contested from under-10s to under-14s in
both singles and doubles, and just singles for
the under-16s.
Alexis Noble took out the under-16s girls
singles, while Timothy Birkin claimed the
under-16 boys.
Competition organiser Haydn Leo said it
was a great turnout, and there were some
handy performances from some locals as
well.
“We were happy with the entry numbers
for this event – we had players from Victoria
and NSW as well as SA for this Tennis
Australia Silver Australian Rankings tournament,”
he said.
“The notable performances from local
players included both Riley Gill and Braiden
Nguyen reaching the semi-finals in the under-
16 boys singles, Mackenzie Leo came
runner-up in the under-16 girls, and Nathan
Samonte reached the quarter finals of the under-
14 boys.”
The next landmark on the local tennis calendar
is the 2021 Gawler May JDS, which is
scheduled for May 2 at Essex Park.
